ACentral Station
When coming by plane, you can catch a train at Schiphol Airport right to Central Station. It will take you only 15 minutes. At the Central Station area, you'll be able to stay close to the train station, but in the direct neighborhood of the canal rides, shopping areas and Red Light District. The new (temporary) location of the Stedelijk Museum (museum for modern art) is only a step stone away.

See the girls behind the windows, enjoy an erotic show in one of the theaters or buy some 'bedroom toys' in one of the many erotic shops. Meanwhile, enjoy the sights of one of the oldest parts of the city when walking around is the famous neighborhood.
